Energy Communities

Energy communities in Ireland are at the heart of the country’s move towards a clean energy future. These groups empower local people to take collective action, ensuring the energy transition is community-led and benefits everyone. By organising collaborative energy projects, they deliver a wide range of benefits such as, environmental, economic, and social, to their wider regions. Simultaneously, they directly help individuals by boosting energy efficiency, lowering electricity costs, and providing greater resilience against future energy challenges such as rising prices and supply disruptions.

EcoVision is a leading example of this. We are a cooperative bringing together 15 energy communities across Tipperary, Limerick, and Clare. We have built a reputation as a trusted local partner for home, business, and community-based energy projects. As a community-led One-Stop Shop, we offer reliable service for energy upgrades and renewable energy generation. Because of our not-for-profit status, we can reduce the overall cost of renovations for participants, making these upgrades more accessible, particularly to households that may struggle to afford them.

Our approach at EcoVision centres on supporting a participatory, collective energy transition. We simplify the process for members by managing Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) paperwork and overseeing projects from start to finish, removing much of the burden while providing expert guidance.

This model shows how communities working together can help build a more sustainable and equitable energy system in Ireland, demonstrating how grassroots initiatives can complement national policy and deliver real change.
